As with any Apple iPhone release, the iPhone 7 has been the most anticipated mobile phone release of this year. With Apple’s primary competitor, Samsung’s, catastrophic setback, it is yet to be seen if iPhone 7 will be able to match up to the expectations of its buyers, or if it will fizzle out like a candle.
Here is a list of 5 things you should know before buying this one:
More than meets the eye
Anyone who picks up an iPhone 7 will think it looks exactly like iPhone 6. Although the similarities aren’t evident, there are some subtle differences. The camera lens is bigger, and the look is much cleaner than its predecessor.
There have also been a few new additions to the color range. The previous models—iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s—were available in silver, gold and rose gold. IPhone 7 and 7s have added two new colors—black and jet black, the former being of a matte finish. The jet black color, however, is prone to scratches and fingerprints due to its super shiny finish.
Although the screen size for iPhone 7 is no different from iPhone 6, it offers 25 percent more brightness than its predecessors.
It can go for a swim
Many water-resistant phones have come (and gone), but it’s still unclear what “water resistance” actually means. iPhone 7 and 7s removes all doubt. The phone can be dipped into a swimming pool or a sink full of water and not go bust. The latest IP67 water resistant chip provides complete protection to the phone. Now the most common, inadvertent drop into the toilet is no longer as devastating.
The sound will blast through the roof
iPhone 7 just got a lot louder. It is the first iPhone that comes with stereo speakers. It provides a decent replacement for a home theater in case the speakers crash at a party.
In fact, in comparison to the iPhone 6 model, iPhone 7 provides speakers that will make it seem like you’re at the concert of the artist on your playlist.
Dim lights? The camera takes action
While the iPhone camera has converted everyone into a photographer, darkness has been a constant enemy. Notwithstanding the 12MP back camera, 7MP front camera, and 4k video recording, this new model has completely dealt with the problem of dim light photography. The telephoto lens in the back camera has made optical zoom in mobiles a reality.
Owing to an Optimal Image Stabilization (OIS) system on the iPhone 7 and 7s, taking pictures in dim light will become the new Internet trend. Apple introduced a four-shading LED flash that improves the light and warmth of the picture.
A brand new iOS 10
The latest software release by Apple was made to be compatible with iPhone 7. The software gives the phone a mind of its own. Now the smartphone is an over-smartphone because of the added Raise to Wake function.
This function applies itself to everything. It even prompts the contents of messages, turning text messages into an emoji gallery. The function can be switched off by going into the Display & Brightness settings.
A new feature called Bedtime has been added into the Clock tab, which helps you regulate sleep time. This is a good option instead of simply switching the phone off.
The music controls page is now on a second page, which can be accessed by swiping up from the home button. The home button itself is a bit larger and has three different pressure sensitivities to select from.
iPhone 7 (1960 mAh) and 7s (2900 mAh) provides enhanced battery life. You get about 2 hours more when compared to iPhone 6 and 6s. The drive to the office after forgetting to charge your phone the previous night just got less stressful.
Text messages include added features such as handwritten and invisible texts. Also, elaborate graphics such as exploding fireworks are childish, but super fun additions that will spread a smile.
